Enhancing User Experience with Native Authentication & Passkeys in KeyConf 2024
A new native experience for improving user experience and security with phishing-resistant authenticators

Martin Besozzi presentation for Keycloak KeyConf 2024
At KeyConf 2024, Martin Besozzi presented “Enhancing User Experience with Native Authentication & Passkeys” (recorded session) focusing on how modern applications can move beyond browser-centric login flows toward a truly native authentication experience.

The session explored how passkeys and other phishing-resistant authenticators can significantly improve both usability and security when combined with API-driven authentication flows. Rather than embedding the traditional redirects, the application takes control of the user experience while relying on open standards.
We discussed how Keycloak can support this model by integrating passkeys into modern authentication journeys, aligning with OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect, and enabling consistent experiences across web and mobile platforms.

The presentation concluded with architectural patterns and practical considerations for adopting passwordless authentication in enterprise environments, highlighting the importance of standards-based design, strong security guarantees, and a seamless user experience.
